How to practise with it

Choose a taal and laya and press Start. Each matra lights up with its bol, with a strong sound on sam, a clap on each taali and a soft wave on khali. Keep the count with your hand as you sing or play, and practise landing your phrases on sam.

Sam is the first beat of the cycle, taali the clapped divisions, and khali the empty division shown with a wave of the hand.

Why does Rupak start on khali?

In Rupak the first beat is traditionally treated as khali rather than a clapped beat.
