How to use the chord library
Choose a root note, a chord type and your instrument. For guitar and ukulele you get up to three playable shapes, from open chords to shapes higher up the neck; tap a diagram to hear it. For bass you see where the chord's notes sit on the fretboard, and for piano the chord and its inversions.
Reading a chord diagram
The vertical lines are the strings, lowest on the left, and the horizontal lines are the frets. A dot shows where to press, a circle above the string means play it open, and × means don't play that string. A number such as 3fr tells you which fret the diagram starts on.
Frequently asked questions
How many chords are included?
Fifteen chord types, including major, minor, 7th, major 7th, minor 7th, sus, diminished, augmented, 6th, 9th and add9, on all twelve roots.
Why are there several shapes?
The same chord can be played in different places on the neck. Different shapes suit different songs and styles.
