How to use the metronome

Set the tempo in beats per minute (BPM) and press Start. Play along so that your notes land exactly with the click. Use the speed trainer to raise the tempo a little at a time as a passage becomes comfortable.

How to practise with a metronome

Start slower than you think you need: at a tempo where you can play a passage perfectly. Once it feels easy several times in a row, raise the speed by a few BPM. Clean playing at a slow tempo builds speed faster than rushing at a fast one.

Count out loud and tap your foot with the click as you play. It builds an inner sense of time that stays with you when the metronome is off.
