How classes work
Small groups, real attention
At Origin Story, singing classes run in small groups of up to four students, one class a week, with the same teacher each week. A small group keeps lessons lively and sociable, while your teacher still hears, guides and corrects every student in every class.
Private lessons are rare and depend on teacher availability. If you have a specific goal, tell us at your free demo and we will suggest the best way to reach it.

Your journey
Your singing roadmap, quarter by quarter
About six months per grade up to Grade 3, then about nine months per grade to Grade 8: around five and three-quarter years for an average student who attends class every week and practises at home two or three times a week. Aligned to the current RSL, Trinity and LCME syllabi. At Origin Story, our school in Sushant Lok, Gurugram, your teacher follows this path with you, and you perform at Prism’s recitals and Jam’In along the way. How your progress works
- Counselling assessmentYour teacher assesses rhythm, melody, reading and coordination on a 1 to 5 scale, then suggests a starting grade.
- Grade placementYou start at the grade that fits you: Debut for complete beginners, up to Grade 8 or Diploma.
- Quarter by quarterEach grade takes about six to nine months. Your teacher adjusts the pace to your progress.
- Ensemble readinessTeachers assess how you understand, perform and respond to music, then place you in a level 1, 2 or 3 ensemble when you are ready.
- ExamsGraded exams with RSL, ISoM or Trinity, as your course offers them, when you are ready.
- Certificate and stageA certificate as you complete each level, and a stage at our live shows, five or more a year.

Graded vocal exams with RSL (Rockschool) or Trinity are optional. Origin Story is part of Prism School of Music, with ISoM, RSL and Trinity-affiliated classes, and students can perform at our live shows, five or more a year.

Everything you might ask
I have never sung in front of anyone. Is a group right for me?
Yes. Groups are small, up to four students, and everyone starts with warm-ups together. Most beginners find it easier to relax when they are not singing alone.
Which styles can I sing?
Pop, rock, Bollywood and musical theatre are all welcome. For Hindustani classical singing, see our Hindustani vocal classes.
How big are the group classes?
Groups have up to four students, so your teacher can listen to and correct each person in every class.
How often are classes?
One class a week, at the same time each week.
Do you offer private lessons?
Most of our students learn in small groups, which we find keeps them motivated. Private lessons are rare and depend on teacher availability: ask us at your free demo.
