Music Production Courses in India: What You Learn, Which Software, and Where It Leads

Quick answer: A good music production course teaches you to make finished tracks in a DAW such as Logic Pro or Ableton Live: beat-making, sound design, recording, arrangement, mixing and mastering. You do not need equipment or music theory to start. At Prism, production is taught in acoustically treated studios, with ISoM graded production qualifications and Point Blank Music School and Dolby Institute certificates.
What you learn
- The DAW: recording, editing and arranging in Logic Pro and Ableton Live.
- Beat-making and sound design: drum programming, synthesis and sampling.
- Recording: microphones, recording vocals and instruments, and getting a clean take.
- Arrangement: building a track from an idea into a full song.
- Mixing and mastering: EQ, compression, effects and loudness, so your music sounds right on every speaker.
- Releasing: finishing, exporting and sharing your music.

Logic Pro or Ableton Live?
Both are industry standards. Logic Pro runs only on Mac and is strong for songwriting, recording and mixing. Ableton Live runs on Mac and Windows and is loved for electronic music, beat-making and live performance. At Prism you learn both, so you can choose the one that fits your music.
Do you need gear or theory to start?
No. You can begin with no equipment and no music theory; the studio has what you need, and theory is taught as it becomes useful. Later, a laptop, headphones and a small MIDI keyboard are enough to keep producing at home. Our free Synth Lab and LUFS meter help you practise.
Certificates and qualifications
Production students at Prism can take ISoM graded qualifications in Creative Music Production and Composition, which are regulated by Ofqual and carry UCAS points at Grades 6 to 8, and earn Point Blank Music School and Dolby Institute certificates.
Where production can lead
Producers work as music producers and beat-makers, mixing and mastering engineers, composers for films, ads, games and content, sound designers, live sound engineers and artists releasing their own music. Many musicians also learn production simply to record their own songs. Younger creators can start with our Young Composer Program.
